Wow, that is a lot to digest all at once! Let’s look at the armor of God one piece at a time.

 

The Belt of Truth

 

First, we need to strap the belt of truth around our waist. What truth? The truth of the Word of God. How do you gain this truth? Through reading Scripture and meditating upon God’s Word, allowing it to permeate your heart, mind and soul. Why is truth belted around the waist? Because this is where you have a “gut” reaction to situations and circumstances you face in life. When you know God’s truth in every part of your being, you will feel deep down in the pit of our stomach that something is right or wrong.

 

The Breastplate of Righteousness

The next piece of spiritual armor is the breastplate of righteousness. The breastplate covers the heart with righteousness, which means “right standing with God.” When you are right with God, you can enter the battle with confidence that God is on your side, fighting for you against the foe. Satan knows that our hearts are vulnerable to attack so we need sturdy protection against the slings and arrows he throws our way. A breastplate will help protect your heart so that you do not succumb to things that may otherwise be your undoing.

 

Feet Fitted with the Gospel of Peace

Our feet are shod in peace. Christ came into the world to give us His peace (Eph 2:14). We are called to exhibit Christ’s tranquility of peace. Joy, strength and perseverance come from a calm spirit. Christ’s message was one of peace and salvation. We are called to preach this Gospel message. Paul in his letter to the Romans states, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Rom 10:15, in reference to Is 52:7).

 

Shield of Faith

The shield of faith defends us from the fierce attacks of the enemy. The shield of faith is able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one because we are in constant prayer and communion with God. In intimate union with God, we are in His constant protection.

 

Helmet of Salvation

The helmet of salvation covers our minds, intellect and reasoning. When the enemy attacks, we need our minds to think clearly so that we do not fall prey to the works of the evil one. Working in unison with the belt of truth, we are able to withstand the lies of the great deceiver because we are filled with God’s Word.

Sword of the Spirit

The sword of the spirit is the Word of God. Satan’s power is destroyed by the Spirit of the Word. It is our weapon of offense against the evil one.

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

The lies of Satan are no match for the truth of God’s Word.

You are now fitted for battle. God is at your side, defending you against the attacks of the enemy against your marriage and family. Use the sword of the spirit against the enemy, praying the healing words of God over your wife and children. God hears your prayers and sees your faith. He is pleased with your willingness to fight the good fight of faith. You are a soldier for the Lord. May the Lord bless your efforts with success!
